The following instructions address issues related to installing
SmartFonts in Mac OS X.

How do I install the fonts from a .zip download?

You need administrative privileges to install software. If you do not have administrative privileges, you will need to ask someone who does to install the software (such as a computer tech at your company).

The .zip file should automatically decompress to a new folder when downloaded. If not, double-click the .zip file to decompress it. You should make a backup copy of the .zip file for safe keeping.

Open the downloaded folder (decompressed from the .zip file), then open the folder named “Fonts to Install” to see all font files (.otf extension), then install using Font Book (steps below).

Install using Font Book

(may require Administrator privileges)

Install single font file: Double-click each font file to open it in Font Book, then click the "Install Font" button.

Install multiple font files: Click on Applications (at left in the folder window), then open Font Book (double-click it). Go to the File menu, select Add Fonts, then choose the "Fonts to Install" folder (from the downloaded folder or CD), and click "Open" to install all the fonts in that folder.

To start using the fonts, open a new document in TextEdit, Pages, Word for Mac (2008 or above), or an Adobe application (CS4 and above). If the application was open when you installed the fonts, you will need to quit the application and then re-open it to use the fonts. Choose the fonts from the Font menu or Character palette.

How do I install from a CD?

Printed instructions are included with CDs. If you have lost the instructions, here are the steps.

1. Insert the CD into the computer, then double-click the CD to view the contents.
2. Open the folder named "Fonts to Install" to see all font files (.otf extension).
3. Follow the steps above to install using Font Book.
