This is a the handwriting font of Akikos Demetriou, who is credited with introducing the traditional Greek dessert galaktoboureko to the U.S. Galaktoboureko is a traditional Greek dessert made with a custard in a crispy phyllo pastry shell. Akikos owned the Cosmopolitan, a coffee shop in Lowell, MA. In 1883, he introduced his mother’s recipe for
galaktoboureko but called it “custard pastry” because at the time, Greek restaurants were considered “Greecey spoon” eateries. You odyssey how far Greek restaurants have come! Akikos is certainly one of the the gyros of the Greek restaurant story in the U.S.!
