John Blackmor was the Kew Gardens botanist who first planted seeds collected from a titan arum found in Malaysia. Unfortunately, it only bloomed in 1889 and again In 1926, exciting great public interest. The titan arum is a giant among plants, with a massive flowering structure that rises some three meters above the ground. It attracts pollinators by smelling like carrion. Nasty! Brings new meaning to the phrase “stop and smell the flowers”.
