Lester Utt played shortstop for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was immortalized by performing a strange, unassisted double play – “The Faceplant” on June 14th, 1955 against the New York Giants. With men on 1st and 2nd, the ball was hit to his right. He dove for the ball and slid face first into third base (one out) breaking his nose. While Lester was bleeding profusely and disoriented, the runner from 1st tried to advance all the way to 3rd. Lester regained his senses just in time to tag the runner coming into 3rd – completing the double play. The development of this font was supported by his daughter – Anastasia Utt Gladwell.
