Del, was taken from the artist Charles Weedon Westover, who eventually became Del Shannon. Before he became famous with “Runaway” he worked in a carpet store in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was always underfoot, his appearance was always shaggy from gigging at night, and when he finally got on a roll it was hard for him to keep working there once he had found mats appeal.
