Youra Rock is a ballet created by little-known choreographer Altamont Vadim from Balabanovo, Russia. The ballet is a tribute to the rock group the Rolling Stones, and Altamont tells us that although the ballet has been popular it gives him no satisfaction. Asked for more details in a recent interview, the ballet master replied, “Don’t start me up on this topic! You will only witness me as tears go by when I think of how hard I worked on this dance.” Altamont was teased constantly as a child and was known as his mother’s little helper; but as he grew into a strong young man and a brave dancer, he became somewhat of a legendary street fighter. His fighting spirit and unique dance moves brought him to the forefront of international ballet, so it wasn’t all doom and gloom. “Suddenly, I had the dance world under my thumb! I felt that time was finally on my side, and it was like an emotional rescue!” Youra Rock was to be Altamont’s masterpiece, but on opening night Angie Kradosty fell off the prop cloud she was riding and broke her leg. Although lauded for his efforts, Altamont wasn’t able to recover from the blow and finally tweeted, “I tried, but you can’t always get what you want.”
