This is the handwriting of Chuang Tinglong of Changzhou, China. He specializes in exporting jade cicadas from the Han period. These jade cicadas are called tongue amulets because they are often placed upon the tongue of the dead. They are often “taken” from ancient graves. Periodical cicadas are the longest-lived insects on Earth. Mathematicians have theorized that cicada life spans tend to fall in prime numbers like 13 and 17 because it makes it harder for short-lived predators to match up their life spans with their emergence. These jade cicadas were usually placed on the tongue during Han period burials, but many have been known to be placed in ALL human orifices! Handle with care.
