In 1943, as WW II raged, General Electric engineer James Wright (and/or Dr. Earl L. Warrick of Dow Corning) were working on developing synthetic rubber. Experimenting, one (or both of them) combined silicone oil and boric acid. He/they dropped some of the substance and saw it bounce remarkably high. A host of engineers could not find any practical purpose for the concoction. Ruth Keyport Fallgatte, a toy store owner from New Haven, Connecticut, saw its potential and the rest is history (after a lot of hard work and advertising). vLetter used print samples from Silly Putty original advertising storyboards to create ths font.
