Lindy ran for governor of South Dakota fifteen times and never won-never even got in the final race. But he did become well known around the state for his drinking prowess and his ability to continually say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Although he never realized his dream of being the 5th face on Mt. Rushmore, he does have his picture on the wall at the Corn Palace.
