This the handwriting font of Mr. Edmond G. Whittle, the inventor of the manila folder. The manila component of the name comes from manila hemp or abaca, from which manila folders were originally made. The font was developed from correspondence Edmond kept for years in (what else) manila folders. A Gallup poll done in November, 2014 revealed that 21% of the population of Quincy, Massachusetts pronounces “manila folder” as “vanilla folda”.
