This is the handwriting of Rami Jotwani, who emigrated from India to London in 1923. In 1926, Rami founded Veeraswamy, London’s oldest Indian restaurant on Regent St.. Rami is the pioneer of great food in the UK. Thanks to Rami, wonderful food was available in London for decades until British cooking was re-energized in the ’90’s. My apologies to all the fantastic English chefs over the past four decades, but this reviewer was once served peas in a nice restaurant in London in the early ’90’s. I asked if they were “fresh” or “frozen” and the answer was “canned”. ‘Nuf said.
